LA CASA DELLE STELLE

We collaborated during a two months artists residency in Rome (October-December 2020). We started our creative process of music and video storytelling as a means to convey our message through artistic  expression. At the end of our residency, our works were showcased at “La Casa Delle Stelle” during an art exhibition  and interactive performance with the public present at the venue.

MUSIC AND SONGS OF 2A-LTY

"Musical storytelling of friendship and hope through a four-dimensional system of duality mirror symmetry."

This has always been our guiding principle.

We want to use our music and storytelling to help people, not only ourselves, but also those who might be experiencing loneliness and mental health problems during these trying times.

One of the aspects of 2A-LTY is that we use music and songs as a means of reaching out, to try and connect and to spread a message of courage and hope.

"Music is a work of art that goes in through the ears, straight to the Heart."

The Story Behind 2A-LTY

In the Summer 2020 we started collaborating in various projects, including films, music videos, animation, online  performances reaching an audience of more than 500 people per event. But what makes us, 2A-LTY, unique is the  story behind our collaboration.

AUGUST 2020

We met through social media just after the first pandemic lockdown. We first met during one of Ruairi's Facebook’s online events for a group of people suffering with mental health issues.

Nadia after surviving Covid19 was still suffering with post-covid PTSD and fatigue, for months  unable to talk or breath properly. Ruairi was fighting against depression and alcohol addiction, almost wanting to  give up on his music. When he learned about Nadia’s struggles he wrote songs for her as breathing exercises. Practicing those songs helped Nadia to improve her breathing, regaining emotional and physical strength.

Footprints in the Snow was the very first song that Ruairi and Nadia wrote together. It is the very song that Nadia practiced singing in English and Italian that helped her to improve her breathing

We came up with the concept of contrasting depression to an icy blanket of snow that envelops, covers, and suffocates young people suffering from depression during a discussion between us two about how to increase mental health awareness for young people suffering from depression. The song's lyrics follow from there. For those who have had it since childhood, it is like walking through a white forest that confuses and disorients them. The warmth of those that love us, like a ray of sunshine from a mate, can be the fire that melts the ice. Even if it won't be able to fully remove the snow from our environment, it will help us forget about it and continue on our journey of self-discovery.

"Next To Me"

When Ruairi saw the positive effects of his music on Nadia's well-being, he decided to change his life, begin his own battle to overcome his addiction, and begin writing music again. Ruairi suggested to Nadia that they collaborate on song writing, adding and singing Italian lyrics to his songs.

Ruairi wrote "Next to Me" in August 2020, but it took Nadia four months to find the words in Italian and the confidence to sing it. Nadia's side of the song was inspired by her longing for her family while in Rome for post-COVID therapy. Singing the song helped Nadia to cope with being isolated from her family who were in the UK. Whilst in Rome Nadia produced a short film to present the song Next To Me at the Launch of La Casa Delle Stelle artist residency.

By the end of the Summer 2021 2A-LTY plan to release a collection of songs linked to the "With Me Be Us" project.

SEPTEMBER 2020

Little Bird

We held a Music Workshop for the National Autistic Society Secondary School in September. At the workshop, we performed one of Ruairi's songs for a year 7 class. The song was called "Little Bird." The concept of the song resonated with autistic students, who were inspired to create art and music as a result.

The song's message is to break free of restrictions, as if you are stuck in a cage. A cage may be the fear of feeling lost or the anxiety to be isolated. The song is now our official theme for the With Me Be Us project.

OCTOBER 2020

Nadia's post-covid condition relapsed in mid-October, so she travelled to Rome for treatment. Ruairi kept sending instrumental pieces of music to help her cope with anxiety during her stay in Rome, and their bond grew stronger. The day she regained her ability to fill her lungs and sing again, she wrote a poem in Italian describing her feelings of healing and being able to breathe again as the sensation of flying, with Ruairi's music acting as the wind beneath her wings. We adapted the lyrics to one of Ruairi's instrumental pieces and created the song Sostienimi In Volo.

2A-LTYs MUSIC AND SONGS IN 2021

January 1st 2021

In January 2021 our collaboration took the name of 2A-LTY. The first visual storytelling was the song Rescue Me wrote by Ruairi about feeling lost and looking for a way out, as a reflection about issues related to addiction and homelessness. Nadia produced the music video. The film was shot in London the day before the second national Lockdown (January 2021). The song was featured on Musicians Against Homelessness Facebook Page.

If I go

Oh off into the night

Would you come

And be my guiding light

If leave oh would you follow me

Be my light

And come

And rescue me

If I stray away from my own path

Would you come

And lead me

Back again

Be my light

And I'm too blind to see

Be my eyes

And come and rescue me

Oh oh oh

I know sometimes

I might get lost

Along the way

On this road ahead

Of trouble facing me

But anytime I do I know

Deep down inside my heart

You will be there

To come

And rescue me

Oh if I try

Oh for the thousandth time

And I fail and I am on my knees

Would you come

And say those words to me

Be my strength

And come

And rescue me

Oh oh oh

I know sometimes

I might get lost

Along the way

On this road ahead

Of life with troubles

Facing me

But anytime I do I know

Deep down inside my heart

You will be there

To come

And rescue me

And if the day

Turns to the darkest night

Would you come

And be my guiding light

Give me hope

In my hour of need

Be my strength

When I’m feeling weak

Be my eyes

When I am blind to see

Would you come

And would you

Rescue me

Give me hope

In my hour of need

Be my strength

When I’m feeling weak

Be my eyes

When I am blind to see

Would you come

And would you

Rescue me

The video for Rescue Me was shot on location in Waterloo, London. Nadia decided to represent a faded juxtaposition between the working class and the homeless people in the area through a walk between skyscrapers and urban street scenes.

What is Musicians Against Homelessness ?

Musicians Against Homelessness launched at the end of 2016 - They initially asked people to get involved with 2 weeks of gigs across the UK to highlight the shocking and rapidly growing problem of homelessness, and to raise funds to help people suffering.

They also wanted to address and focus on the lack of opportunities for talented up-coming bands and artists and to show our support by sourcing new opportunities to perform and to create new places to play. They backed this up with a huge national and regional media campaign, using our PR skills and industry backers to ensure that those that supported us were supported back. The response was incredible and we had to expand our dates to demand.

If you would like to know more about MAH and what they do email them to get involved! Email: mahgigs@gmail.com
